the journey
In the summer of 1997 a young Marquise got in a huddle with a few other youngsters of Richmond, VA. They had a plan. Just like countless young Black boys across the nation, they wanted to rap! Influenced by arguably the hottest group of that time, Bone Thugs N' Harmony, the four young men came up with names giving homage to the Cleveland natives.
Every name that they chose ended in bone. Marquise, because of his charisma, smooth talking, and ways with the young ladies, chose the name Silk Bone. The others also chose names that were similar to their character. They were excited to come up with their first rap, memorize it and possibly perform it for their peers in the summer program.
Although the group came up with a rap, Marquise discovered a calling. Fast forward 22 years, he has done his fair share of work as an artist. Since then he has written and recorded many songs, traveled south to Georgia on different occasions performing in various venues, opened up for established artists, been featured in rap publications and more. As a Veteran of the Armed Forces, he even got the opportunity to rap in Iraq! All of that was as a secular artist rapping about guns, money, drugs, and women, the lifestyle of Quise at the time. As a gospel rap artist, his exposure doubled! He traveled the opposite way up the coast going as far as New York to perform and be interviewed and featured on a local TV show. As an artist he has done a number of interviews for both radio, internet shows, etc.
Having released multiple mixtapes, both secular and gospel, and recorded multiple singles that have gotten international play, Marquise is set to release a NEW music project for 2020.. Long Awaited, and Highly Anticipated.
